Description:

Goats are back in Glendale, helping the City reduce wildfire risk through year round vegetation management. This week, a herd from California Grazing is clearing 20 acres of dry brush in Verdugo Park, including slopes near homes on Las Flores. After an unusually rainy season fueled rapid plant growth, Glendale plans to bring in additional herds this summer to stay ahead of wildfire fuels. Updated CAL FIRE hazard maps now place nearly 15,000 acres — and over 7,400 parcels — in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, underscoring the need for proactive action. Goat grazing is one part of the Glendale Fire Department’s broader Vegetation Management Program, which also includes brush clearance, inspections, and community partnerships to keep neighborhoods safer.
